Invisalign has been an exciting and interesting innovation in orthodontics. The process to get Invisalign has various similarities with conventional braces. It requires an initial consultation, checking teeth alignment, planning, etc. Simultaneously, there are a few key differences to make Invisalign a smoother procedure for dentists and patients.

The step-by-step process of getting Invisalign treatment and what to expect from it.

The Invisalign process is a multi-step process. For each step, a few important things are essential to know beforehand to make your treatment efficient and effective. The treatment will work well when you also play your part. Here, we will describe the different stages of the Invisalign process to provide you with as much information as possible.

So, consider this guide a helpful tool when planning to undergo an Invisalign procedure.

  • Perform your due diligena useful tool when a treatment specialist.

The first step in getting Invisalign is finding a trustworthy orthodontist specializing in Invisalign. Getting Invisalign always feels like a good idea, but the orthodontist you choose will affect your finances and life quality. Therefore, it is always important to choose an orthodontist with Invisalign experience is key.

  1. Make a list of what different orthodontist clinics offer.
  2. Compare their specialties, location, experience, price, and other factors to make the best choice.
  3. Don't hesitate to visit a few orthodontists from your list to make a better choice.

Ask for recommendations if you have a family doctor who isn't specialized in Invisalign.

Treatment Specialist
  • Book an initial consultation with your orthodontist.

Once you have chosen your orthodontist, book your initial consultation. Remember that the initial consult is the crucial step in your overall Invisalign process. It helps your chosen orthodontist assess your oral health before the procedure.

The complete oral health assessment will help you to identify whether the treatment is right for you. Sometimes, patients may also need a different appliance type to start with.

Your orthodontic will take a dental x-ray or 3D scan of your oral cavity to examine your teeth properly. The life-like 3D model will make assessment easier. It will show the position and shape of every tooth. After a thorough assessment, the orthodontist will tell you if Invisalign is the ideal choice.

Tips to make your initial consult successful:

Consider these few tips to have a successful consultation with your orthodontist:

  1. Don't forget to read clinic reviews before finalizing your treatment. Ask your loved ones for a reliable recommendation.
  2. Before starting the treatment, discuss what will be included in your Invisalign treatment. It's necessary because some orthodontists include everything till the final retainers in the Invisalign treatment. On the other hand, others have broken the Invisalign process into smaller packages. So, get all the details before proceeding to the actual procedure.
  3. You can also identify if your insurance covers the Invisalign cost.
  • Have a treatment plan from your orthodontist.

Once you are all set to start Invisalign treatment, the orthodontist will take impressions, photos, and x-rays of your teeth. The orthodontist will send these to Invisalign with instructions about the required movement for teeth. The Invisalign technicians will consider the information as input to build a 3D rendering of the patient's teeth and a computer model to determine how teeth will move in the required direction.

*Important information*

The 3D predictions aren't always perfect; it is because the use of Invisalign aligners can change things over time. That's why dentists usually prefer getting Invisalign aligners only for the first few months.

In addition, the dentist may also identify other mouth areas that must only be addressed before getting Invisalign. The practice ensures starting with the healthiest possible mouth for your teeth problem's optimal outcome.

  • Process preparation.

The next step here is preparation for the Invisalign procedure. If your dentist has found some areas of problem in your mouth, they will work to treat that now.

It may include:

  1. Cleaning or deep cleaning of teeth
  2. Fillings
  3. Root canal for problematic teeth
  4. Any necessary tooth extraction to make space for other teeth's movement.
  5. Addressing gum problems such as periodontitis or gingivitis.

The cost and time required in this process will vary greatly based on how much work is required. At a bare minimum, you may need regular dental cleaning to remove plaque and polishing to proceed. At the same time, root canal treatment would be on the spectrum's other end. It will require multiple dental visits to complete the process.

For Invisalign, you also need studs' attachment on your teeth. These attachments are of tooth color that helps Invisalign to pull teeth into their desired position.

First Invisalign Tray
  • Fitting your first Invisalign tray.

Once the Invisalign tray has reached your dental office, you need to return to the dentist again.

The dentist will use small dental attachments to hold the alignments in their place. Sometimes dentists also need to add composite to your Invisalign template to make it perfectly fit over your teeth. After removal, the template leaves some button-like attachments to teeth to help the Invisalign aligners. After removal, thede your teeth into the required position.

The placement-like attachments are generally temporary and painless.

Finally, you will get your first Invisalign aligner tray to ensure it's perfectly fitted to your teeth structure.

  • Go for follow-up appointments and a new Invisalign tray.

Visiting your dentist a few weeks later is necessary to check the progress of your Invisalign aligners. The dentist will more likely schedule a few appointments for you to keep track of how your Invisalign aligners are performing.

They will also ask you to swap your Invisalign aligners every other week and place a new one instead. The exact frequency of changing your Invisalign aligners generally depends upon the overall length of your treatment. In addition, it may also depend on how far the teeth will move.

  • Finally, the dentist helps you with a refined smile.

When you have worn even the last Invisalign for the required period, you may have done with the Invisalign treatment very well. However, sometimes, a few of your teeth may require some adjustments. This happening isn't rare in orthodontics.

In that case, your dentist will contact Invisalign again to obtain a few refinement trays for you. These refinement trays will take a few weeks to arrive. Using these refinement trays will help your dentist give you a more refined smile in the best possible way.

  • Maintain your beautiful smile.

After completing the Invisalign treatment, you may need to wear retainers for a while. The retainers help your jaw bones have enough time to solidify as per your new teeth replacement. Another solution is Invisalign Vivera. It is similar to Invisalign aligners but a bit more durable and thicker. They don't need to be swooped like your Invisalign aligners.

You can opt for Invisalign Vivera or wired retainers as per your comfort. In any case, wearing retainers is imperative immediately after the treatment.

Ideally, it would be better to wear retainers for a little period every week throughout your life. The practice is necessary because our teeth keep shifting and moving throughout life.

Quick tips for a successful Invisalign process:

  1. Always listen to your dentist to get the best results from your Invisalign process.
  2. Brush and floss your teeth regularly when using Invisalign aligners. Remove your aligners for a while to complete your oral hygiene routine regularly.
  3. Clean your Invisalign aligners regularly to avoid any bacterial and plaque buildup.
  4. Follow-up appointments are necessary, so never skip these.

Overall, the Invisalign process is non-invasive and can help you refine your smile effectively. Choosing the right dentist, listening to what they say, and following up are keys to getting the best results.
